Volvo updates 40-Series lineup with new designs and AI

Volvo has announced comprehensive updates for its 40-Series lineup, which includes the XC40, EX40, and EC40 models. The refresh focuses on exterior design, interior technology, and enhanced safety features.

Exterior changes include redesigned front ends, new headlights featuring the signature ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED design, and updated bumpers. The electric EX40 and EC40 models feature a closed grille, while the petrol XC40 retains a traditional grille. New alloy wheel options ranging from 18 to 20 inches are also available, alongside a new ‘Black Edition’ trim.

Inside the cabin, the infotainment system has been upgraded with a larger 11.2-inch vertical touchscreen. A significant technological addition is the integration of Google Gemini AI to power the vehicle’s voice assistant. The interior also receives revised materials and trim options.

Safety systems have been bolstered with improved sensors, new cameras, and advanced machine vision algorithms designed to assist with emergency braking and collision avoidance. Regarding powertrains, the XC40 will continue with its 2.0-liter mild hybrid engine, while the electric models offer various configurations with a maximum range of up to 585 km. Additionally, a plug-in hybrid version of the XC40 is expected to return to the lineup in early 2027.
