Volvo updates 40 series XC40, EX40, and EC40 models

Volvo Cars has announced significant updates to its 40 series, including the XC40, EX40, and EC40 models. The refresh focuses on design, advanced technology, and enhanced safety features.

Exterior updates include a redesigned front end with new Matrix LED headlights featuring a refined ‘Thor’s Hammer’ signature, along with new grilles, bumpers, and hoods. The XC40 and EX40 also receive updated LED taillights and redesigned rear bumpers, while the EC40 maintains its distinctive silhouette. New wheel designs in 18, 19, and 20-inch options are available.

Inside, the models feature a larger, higher-resolution 11.2-inch central touchscreen with an updated user interface. A key technological addition is the integration of Google Gemini, an AI assistant that enables natural language interaction for tasks such as trip planning and messaging. The cabin also sees improvements in wireless charging, upholstery, and ambient lighting.

Safety and driver assistance have been bolstered by a new software and sensor platform. This includes new front and side radars, a front camera, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and updated parking cameras. New features include ‘Door Opening Alert’ to warn of approaching cyclists and an upgraded Pilot Assist system with lane-change support. The electric EX40 and EC40 models offer driving ranges of up to 575 and 584 kilometers respectively under WLTP conditions.
