Voyah launches Passion S electric SUV with viral tunnel loop stunt
Voyah, a premium brand owned by Dongfeng, has officially launched its Passion S electric SUV in China. To promote the new model, the company released a viral video featuring the vehicle performing a 360-degree loop inside a closed test tunnel in Wuhan.
The stunt is a deliberate recreation of a famous 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG advertisement that featured Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher. While the original Mercedes commercial was widely debated as being reliant on digital effects, Voyah claims its demonstration was performed using a standard production-spec vehicle without modifications. Engineers reportedly calculated that the SUV needed to enter the tunnel at approximately 130 km/h with a 16-degree steering angle to maintain the necessary centrifugal force to complete the loop.
The Passion S is positioned as a high-performance mid-to-large electric SUV. It features an 800V high-voltage platform, supporting 5C super-fast charging, and offers a driving range of up to 740 km. The vehicle also integrates Huawei’s Qiankun ADS 5.0 intelligent driving system. Pricing for the three available trims ranges from approximately 229,900 to 279,900 yuan (roughly $33,800 to $41,200).
