VPBank leads Vietnamese banks with record asset growth
Vietnam's VPBank posted the largest increase in total assets among the country's banks in the first half of 2026, adding about 242,000 billion VND (a 19.2% rise) to reach 1,502 million billion VND. This gain exceeds the combined asset growth of state‑owned giants BIDV and Agribank and outpaces the other members of the so‑called Big4 group (Vietcombank, VietinBank, BIDV, and MB).
National Commercial Bank (NCB) recorded the highest growth rate at 21.6%, with assets of 198,896 billion VND. Other private banks such as ABBank, HDBank and KienlongBank also posted double‑digit expansion. Only Sacombank and Eximbank saw asset declines, falling 2.7% and 2.6% respectively. Despite the rapid expansion of several private banks, the state‑owned Big4 still dominate total asset size, with BIDV remaining the largest holder of assets in the system.
