Vietnam targets economic growth through improved credit and infrastructure funding
Vietnam is focusing on enhancing economic growth and financial stability through improved credit access and infrastructure investment. At the Techcombank Investment Summit 2026, Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam, Nguyen Ngoc Canh, emphasized the need to mobilize long-term international capital and private resources to support large-scale infrastructure projects in transport, energy, and digital sectors.
To support small and medium enterprises (SMEs), preferential credit programs have expanded, with over 407 trillion VND in available funds from 19 banks. However, challenges remain in bridging the gap between capital supply and demand, as many SMEs struggle with collateral requirements and financial transparency. Experts suggest shifting credit assessments toward cash flow and future value rather than just physical assets.
In the legal and regulatory sphere, the Government has directed the Ministry of Construction to clarify regulations regarding the service life of apartment buildings, aligning them with construction lifespan standards. Additionally, efforts are underway to modernize the banking system, with a goal of having at least 300,000 SMEs with bank debt by 2030. Meanwhile, the banking sector continues to see significant contributions, such as VPBank contributing $1.2 billion to the state budget between 2021 and 2025.
