Vrindavan ashram controversy follows death of Premanand Maharaj disciple

Controversy has erupted in Vrindavan following the death of Deepak Lodhi, a disciple of the prominent saint Premanand Maharaj. Lodhi died by suicide after jumping from the roof of the ‘Guru Kripa Kunj Ashram’ on September 25. A post-mortem report revealed that his genitals had been severed, leading to death via excessive blood loss.

The incident has triggered allegations of criminal activity within the ashram. Dinesh Sharma, president of the ‘Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Sangharsh Nyas’, has claimed that the ‘Keli Kunj Ashram’ has become a hub for land mafias. He alleged that the ashram has split into two groups: genuine saints and fake saints who are engaged in illegal land and property businesses, reportedly controlling approximately 15 ashrams.

Due to these tensions and the activities of individuals described as having a ‘criminal mentality’, Premanand Maharaj has moved from the Keli Kunj Ashram to the ‘Belvan Ashram’, located 20 kilometers away. Local leaders and Sadhvi Indulekha have called for increased security for the saint, citing serious risks to his safety and the tarnishing of his reputation by anti-social elements. Requests for ‘Z-plus’ security for Maharaj have been submitted to the Chief Minister.
