SweepLED smartphone attachment developed to detect hidden cameras

Researchers have developed SweepLED, a compact LED attachment for smartphones designed to detect hidden cameras in private spaces like hotels and Airbnbs with high precision.

Led by Professor Jun Han at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), the project involved collaboration with the National University of Singapore and Singapore Management University. Unlike traditional detectors that rely on simple light reflections—which can be triggered by glass or metal—SweepLED uses a structured approach. It projects light from multiple angles and utilizes AI to analyze reflections, aiming to identify camera lenses more accurately.

This innovation addresses growing global concerns regarding privacy violations and illegal surveillance in locations intended to be private retreats.
