Várzea Grande suspends health staff vacations amid financial crisis

The municipality of Várzea Grande is facing a significant financial crisis, leading to the temporary suspension of vacations for employees in the Municipal Health Department for 180 days. This measure, announced by Health Secretary Valéria Aparecida Nogueira, follows a municipal decree establishing a state of financial and fiscal calamity signed by Mayor Flávia Moretti.

The crisis stems from R$ 19.7 million in unpaid judicial debts, which resulted in the seizure of municipal funds and the retention of federal and state transfers. The health department stated the suspension is necessary to ensure adequate staffing and prevent the collapse of essential public services during this critical period.

In separate developments, the city is addressing staffing and employment needs. The Municipal Secretariat of Education, Culture, Sport, and Leisure (SMECEL) has opened a simplified selection process for temporary roles, specifically for Child Development Technicians (TDI) and Specialized Educational Development Technicians (TDEE). Additionally, a partnership between CRAS Cristo Rei and the National Employment System (Sine) is offering over 470 job vacancies to local residents.
