By mid-August 2026, the financial crisis in Várzea Grande intensified. As the crisis persists, the Municipal Chamber has faced a legislative backlog, with 17 projects from the Executive branch currently awaiting votes. The Chamber’s Constitution, Justice, and Drafting Commission (CCJ) returned four projects—including proposals to create secretariats for Women, Culture, and Public Security—to the Executive. CCJ President Alessandro Moreira stated the decision was made “to avoid increasing public expenses during the current financial crisis,” though the projects may be reconsidered once finances are regularized.

Despite fiscal constraints, the city continues to manage staffing through simplified selection processes and maintains public service initiatives, including road maintenance, sanitation planning, and an environmental education partnership with Unifacc.
