Várzea Grande municipal development

Entities: Várzea Grande · Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT) · Complementary Law No. 5.563/2026 · Mato Grosso state government · Flávia Moretti

Overview

In early July 2026 the municipal school EMEB Manoel Benedita de Arruda was reported to be 70 % complete, adding classrooms, a cafeteria, a kitchen and accessible bathrooms as part of a wider program to upgrade local school facilities.

Later that month the council approved a package of complementary laws establishing unified career and salary structures for municipal guards, traffic, Procon inspectors and the Municipal Social Security Institute, and creating a new career track for the Municipal Communication Secretariat. The fiscal re‑management ceiling was raised from 5 % to 30 %, enabling extra credits in the 2026 budget.

On 24 July a mobilisation at São João Batista Catholic Church launched the free regularisation of 977 homes under the Acelera VG – Reurb programme, with titles to be issued within six months to a year after registration.

Two days later water‑treatment plants and reservoirs were inspected, identifying structural upgrades that will feed the Aliança pela Água plan to improve water production, storage and distribution.

A second meeting on 28 July with the Cooplíder cooperative outlined a coffee‑production chain to diversify farming and increase rural income. The same period saw a UFMT‑Empaer‑municipal partnership to assist family farmers in monitoring caterpillar infestations and developing resistant varieties.

On 29 July Mayor Flávia Moretti signed Complementary Law No. 5.563/2026, allowing the municipality to parcel a R$36.56 million pension debt into up to 300 monthly installments over 25 years, subject to fiscal compatibility and federal approval. The Mato Grosso Court of Accounts also ordered the city to submit documentation on the school construction contract, flagging duplicated items and unit‑price overpricing and recommending the use of the national construction cost index (SINAPI) for future budgeting.
