Várzea Grande Mayor Authorizes Debt Repayment Plan While Court Investigates School Construction Overpricing

Mayor Flávia Moretti of Várzea Grande signed Complementary Law No. 5.563/2026, allowing the municipality to parcel a pension debt of roughly R$36.56 million incurred in 2019‑2020. The law permits up to 300 monthly installments over 25 years and may include various outstanding liabilities, with municipal revenues usable as guarantees, though any agreement still requires fiscal compatibility and federal approval.

The Mato Grosso Court of Accounts ordered the Várzea Grande municipal government to submit, within 30 days, documentation on a school construction project contracted to Cevic Construtora e Incorporadora Eireli. The audit found duplicated items and unit prices above market rates, indicating overpricing in the budget base, though the final amount paid remained below market values. The court recommended using the national construction cost index (SINAPI) for future budgeting.
