Várzea Grande advances land regularization, water infrastructure and agricultural projects
The municipality of Várzea Grande in Mato Grosso is implementing several development initiatives. A land‑regularisation programme (Acelera VG – Reurb) will grant definitive titles to 977 homes in the Construmat neighbourhood, free of charge, with an expected completion time of six months to a year after families complete registration.
State and municipal water officials inspected the city's water‑treatment plants and storage reservoirs on 26 July, identifying structural and operational upgrades needed. The findings will feed the Aliança pela Água intervention plan to improve water production, storage and distribution for residents.
The city, together with the agricultural cooperative Cooplíder, held a second meeting on 28 July to outline a coffee‑production chain, aiming to diversify farming, support family producers and generate rural income.
A research partnership among the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT), the state agency Empaer and the municipal environment department provides technical assistance to family farmers for monitoring caterpillar infestations, collecting samples and developing resistant crop varieties.
