Srebrenica peace march draws thousands across Bosnia

Over 6,300 participants gathered in Nezuk on July 8 to start the three‑day Marš mira, a 100‑km walk to the Memorial Centre in Potočari, honoring the victims of the July 1995 Srebrenica genocide. Organisers said more than 9,000 people are expected to reach Potočari by July 10, where a collective burial of ten identified victims will be held.

The commemorations also include a Moto Marathon with more than 2,000 motorcyclists from Bosnia, the region, Europe, Turkey and Libya, travelling from Bihać to Srebrenica on July 9‑10 and ending with a flower‑laying ceremony at the memorial. An ultra‑marathon linking Vukovar and Srebrenica runs a 227‑km route, with participants from Croatia and Bosnia.

Cultural programmes accompany the marches: the publication “Svjedoci genocida” was launched in Tuzla, an exhibition of portraits by Renata Bošnjak opened in Tuzla, and a vigil in London placed eleven white lilies at the Bosnian flag. These activities aim to preserve the culture of remembrance and send a message that the genocide must never be repeated.
