Vukovi sa Vučijaka marks 35th anniversary in Republika Srpska
The veteran unit “Vukovi sa Vučijaka” held a ceremony on June 21, 2026 at Vučijak near Prnjavor to mark 35 years since its formation. The unit, the first Serbian volunteer formation and the inaugural assault battalion of the First Krajina Corps of the Army of Republika Srpska, is remembered for its role in the Bosnian War. Wreaths were laid in a memorial hall and senior officials spoke.
Republika Srpska Premier Savo Minić hailed the unit as elite and heroic, saying it contributed to the survival of Serbs in the area. About 1,000 fighters served in the unit, with 43 killed and roughly 200 wounded. It has been awarded the Order of Miloš Obilić and the Order of Karađorđe Star. Local leaders, including the mayor of Prnjavor, expressed pride in the unit’s legacy.
