Vung Ang Economic Zone expansion approved in Ha Tinh

The Vietnamese government has approved the expansion of the Vung Ang Economic Zone in Ha Tinh province. According to Decision No. 1918/QD-TTg signed on October 2, 2026, the total area of the zone will increase to approximately 72,998 hectares.

The expanded zone will consist of 57,998 hectares of land and 15,000 hectares of sea area. It is designated as a key, multi-sectoral economic zone with a focus on basic industries, integrated with the development of the Vung Ang and Son Duong port areas, as well as regional and international transport networks.

The project aims to establish the zone as a major economic hub and transport node for the North Central region. It is intended to serve as a critical gateway for trade between Central Vietnam and parts of Laos and Northeast Thailand. Additionally, authorities are exploring the implementation of new models, such as a Free Trade Zone, to drive socio-economic growth in Ha Tinh and surrounding areas.
