Vyšší Brod and Reichenthal open cross-border cycling path
The towns of Vyšší Brod in the Czech Republic and Reichenthal in Austria have officially opened a new cross-border cycling path. The project, costing approximately 21.8 million CZK, restores a historical connection through the former border crossing between the vanished Czech village of Konrátov and the Austrian village of Stiftung.
The path spans roughly 4 kilometers, with 3.6 kilometers located in the Czech Republic and 500 meters in Austria. The initiative was funded largely by the European Union's Interreg Austria-Czech Republic program under the ‘Krajinou bez hranic’ (Landscape Without Borders) initiative.
A notable feature of the project is the installation of an autonomous ‘cyklopoint’ in Vyšší Brod, provided by Make4Green. This facility is the first of its kind in the Czech Republic and utilizes renewable energy from 2.0 kWp bifacial photovoltaics and a 300 W vertical wind turbine. The generated electricity is stored in a LiFePO4 battery system to charge e-bikes, mobile phones, and other electronics.
