VZP plans to introduce in-house cardiology care coordinators

VZP Director Ivan Duškov has announced plans to introduce cardiology care coordinators working directly within the insurance company. This initiative aims to utilize highly competent employees, whose capacity is being freed up by the digitalization of administrative processes, to manage cardiovascular care and pilot projects such as remote telemonitoring following acute procedures.

Other health insurance providers, including RBP, are monitoring the proposal. RBP Director Antonín Klimša noted that while the VZP vision has a rational basis, his organization is already implementing its own cardiovascular projects, including telemedicine for patient monitoring.

Parallel to these institutional changes, the role of general practitioners is expanding. Doctors are gaining broader competencies, including the ability to prescribe more medications for chronic conditions like diabetes or lung diseases, and an increased focus on prevention, mental health, and hereditary diseases. These changes aim to streamline the patient journey for those with chronic issues such as heart failure, kidney disease, and asthma.
