Sint-Gillis and Dutch towns report arsons and explosions
Multiple incidents of arson and explosions have been reported across Belgium and the Netherlands. In Sint-Gillis, Belgium, a series of targeted car fires damaged eight vehicles and several building facades. Mayor Jean Spinette described the incidents as ‘targeted acts,’ with local residents suggesting a link to drug-related crime.
In the Netherlands, two separate explosions occurred within hours in Zaandam and Assendelft. The blast in Assendelft damaged a supermarket facade and caused a small fire. Police are searching for a suspect described as being approximately 1.70 meters tall and dressed entirely in black. Additionally, a powerful explosion in Alphen caused a shockwave felt by nearby residents, though no injuries were reported.
Environmental concerns are also rising due to extreme drought. A large natural fire in Rheezerveen was brought under control after significant deployment of emergency services, while a forest fire near Rhenen was quickly extinguished by rapid response teams.
