WADA President calls for crackdown on doping in Kenya
World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) President Witold Bańka has concluded a three-day official visit to Kenya, where he called for an aggressive crackdown on doping cartels, unethical doctors, and corrupt supply networks. During his visit, Bańka met with government officials and sports administrators to reinforce the nation’s anti-doping framework.
President William Ruto met with Bańka at State House to discuss maintaining clean athletics. Ruto stated that Kenya is currently aligning its domestic anti-doping laws with the WADA World Anti-Doping Code and Rules, with the goal of having them fully operational by January 2027. The President also noted that the Anti-Narcotics Unit within the Directorate of Criminal Investigations will play an integral role in the fight against doping.
Bańka emphasized the need for a zero-tolerance policy to protect Kenya’s reputation as a global athletics leader, particularly as the country prepares to host major events such as the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2029 World Athletics Championships.
