WAEC releases 2026 WASSCE results amid malpractice sanctions

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) provisional results. A total of 512,862 candidates participated, marking an 11.07% increase from the previous year. Performance data shows Social Studies had the highest pass rate at 78.04%, while English Language pass rates stood at 62.40%, continuing a steady decline.

Following investigations by the Ghana Examinations Committee, WAEC announced significant sanctions for examination malpractice. The council cancelled the subject results of 7,434 candidates for using unauthorized materials and the entire results of 861 candidates for possessing mobile phones. Additionally, results for 957 candidates were withheld for subject-specific offences, and 270 candidates had their entire results withheld. Investigations into suspected collusion across 169 schools are ongoing, with final decisions expected by October 30, 2026.

In response to the results, the University of Ghana has instructed applicants to log into the admissions portal to verify personal details, including full names, dates of birth, and examination information. The university has set a deadline of 11:59 pm on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, for applicants to complete their 2026/2027 undergraduate admissions applications.
