Wales begins development of first Climate and Nature Action Plan

Wales has commenced work on its inaugural Climate and Nature Action Plan, a cross-government initiative designed to address the climate and nature emergencies as interconnected challenges. The plan aims to establish a practical pathway toward achieving net zero by 2040 and significant nature recovery by 2050.

A new Climate and Nature Board will be established to oversee the plan, provide expert coordination, and ensure accountability. The board will be chaired by Llyr Gruffydd, the Cabinet Minister for Rural Resilience and Sustainability. The initiative seeks to integrate the experiences of communities and partners to tackle the root causes of environmental issues rather than just their symptoms.

Key objectives include supporting sustainable development, strengthening resilience against flooding and wildfires, improving environmental sustainability, and supporting a just transition. The plan also focuses on protecting natural systems to support healthier communities, cleaner air and water, and a more resilient economy.
