Wales fire services praised following intense wildfire season
Fire and rescue services in Wales are receiving recognition following a period of intense wildfire activity. The North Wales Fire and Rescue Service managed multiple blazes across various locations, including Pentre Halkyn, Brymbo, and Holyhead. Tom Montgomery MS met with service members to express gratitude for their efforts in protecting homes and lives.
Similarly, the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service reported significant operational challenges due to a surge in large-scale incidents. The service attributed the high volume of emergencies to prolonged dry weather and drought conditions that left vegetation prone to ignition.
During these operations, a critical incident team was established to manage simultaneous large-scale responses. The service noted that farmers provided vital assistance in containing wildfires by using agricultural equipment and water tankers in remote areas. Mutual aid was also provided by partner services from South Wales, North Wales, and Lancashire.
