Wallenius Wilhelmsen deploys first dual-fuel Shaper Class vessel
Wallenius Wilhelmsen has taken delivery of the Arctic Tern, the first dual-fuel vessel in its new Shaper Class series. Designed for automotive and high-and-heavy roll-on/roll-off cargo, the vessel is methanol-ready and will be deployed through EUKOR Car Carriers, a joint venture with Hyundai Motor Group, on trade routes between Asia and Europe.
The Shaper Class represents a key component of the company’s strategy to provide net-zero end-to-end supply chain services by 2027. The Arctic Tern features increased cargo capacity and improved hull efficiency compared to previous generations.
In a separate sustainability initiative, Wallenius SOL has expanded its use of biofuels. The company has transitioned one vessel to Advanced FAME B100 biofuel and is extending this practice to its B-Class vessels. This move aims to reduce greenhouse gas intensity and create a FuelEU Maritime compliance surplus that can be utilized across the fleet.
