Walmart Mexico leverages AI and robots to improve supply chain

Walmart de México y Centroamérica has introduced an artificial‑intelligence model that monitors inventory health, distinguishing between healthy and unhealthy stock and dynamically adjusting coverage days. The system provides root‑cause visibility to replenishment, merchandising and sales teams, helping to reduce on‑hand inventory days.

In its Megapark fulfillment centre in the State of Mexico, Walmart invested more than 400 million pesos to deploy the Goods‑to‑Person (GTP 2.0) automation model. Sixty‑seven autonomous robots now transport items to fixed stations, cutting internal travel by up to 80 % and quadrupling order‑processing capacity. The rollout has raised picking accuracy to 99 % and shortened order‑to‑delivery times, supporting the company’s omnichannel growth.

Together, the AI inventory tool and the robotic fulfillment system aim to boost product availability, lower logistics costs and strengthen Walmart’s e‑commerce competitiveness in Mexico and Central America.
