Walt Disney World announces 2027 expansions and policy changes

Walt Disney World Resort is implementing several operational changes, expansions, and policy updates affecting guests through 2027.

Major developments include a significant dining expansion in 2027, with six new restaurants scheduled to open across Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and the upcoming Lakeshore Lodge. These additions are tied to large-scale projects such as the Tropical Americas expansion and the Monsters, Inc. themed area.

To streamline operations, the resort is tightening policies. This includes stricter scanning of MagicBands and tickets for guests using Disney transportation from Disney Springs to resort hotels; travelers must now prove an active hotel stay or a confirmed dining reservation to board.

Other notable updates include the temporary closure of the Walt Disney World Railroad, the introduction of the Lilypad smart tablet experience in Toy Story Land, and an unannounced addition to the EPCOT World Showcase located between the Italy and American Adventure pavilions. Crowd predictions for 2027 suggest peak visitor periods during New Year’s, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and various seasonal marathons.
