Walt Disney World reveals details for major theme park expansions
Walt Disney Imagineering has provided new details regarding several major expansions currently underway at Walt Disney World. The upcoming projects include Villains Land, Piston Peak, Tropical Americas, and Monstropolis.
In Magic Kingdom, the development of Villains Land and the Cars-themed Piston Peak—which will replace Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island—is a primary focus. To maintain visual immersion, Imagineers utilize a “balloon test” to ensure new structures do not disrupt the sightlines of neighboring themed areas.
At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, construction is progressing on Monstropolis, a Monsters, Inc.-themed land slated to open in 2027. The area will feature a central street named Dark Avenue and architecture designed to mimic monster-like characteristics.
Bruce Vaughn, President and CCO of Walt Disney Imagineering, noted that Villains Land is one of the company’s most ambitious projects, comparable in scale and immersion to the Star Wars-themed Galaxy’s Edge.
