Walt Disney World Starts Roof Renovation at Germany Pavilion, EPCOT

Roof work began on July 28 at the Germany World Showcase Pavilion in EPCOT, Walt Disney World Resort. The red shingles on the slanted roof of the Das Kaufhaus merchandise building were removed and covered with brown scrim fabric while a third‑party roofing contractor carries out general construction. The project follows weeks of scaffolding, rolling planters and other barriers that have been installed since June, after Disney filed a permit for the work.

Das Kaufhaus remains open during the renovation, though some entrances may close temporarily when work is directly overhead. Nearby, the Stein Haus gift‑shop façade is still blocked by scaffolding and planters, suggesting that roof work could later extend to that building as well. No timeline for completion has been announced, and Disney has not confirmed whether other structures in the pavilion will be renovated.

The construction aims to address aging roofs, rot and sun‑fading across the pavilion’s buildings, allowing the resort to replace worn infrastructure in batches to minimize visual contrast for guests.
