Waltrop to implement Metropolradruhr bike-sharing system
The Metropolradruhr bike-sharing system is expanding to Waltrop, where 31 rental bicycles are planned. A designated location has been established at the Herne-Bay-Platz bicycle parking facility, and the city has requested that owners of existing bicycles clear the left side of the area to make space.
As part of a district-wide rollout across ten cities in the Recklinghausen district, the system will feature a total of 635 bicycles and 157 rental stations. The official launch is scheduled for early September, though some bicycles may already be available for use.
Managed via the Donkey Republic app, the service offers several pricing tiers: 1 Euro per hour, a monthly rate of 7.50 Euro, or an annual rate of 60 Euro. Each tier includes 60 free minutes daily. The Recklinghausen district intends to subsidize the operation with 663,000 Euro through the end of the contract term in 2030.
