Wang Yi to visit South Korea for high-level diplomatic talks
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is scheduled to visit South Korea on January 19-20, marking his first solo visit to the country in approximately five years. During the visit, Wang will hold a foreign ministers' meeting with South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and meet with President Lee Jae-myung at the Blue House.
Discussions are expected to cover bilateral relations, the situation on the Korean Peninsula, and various regional and international issues. A key point of interest is whether the talks will advance the ‘multilateral dialogue for discussions on the termination of the war’ proposed by President Lee in his Liberation Day speech. The South Korean government is expected to request China’s constructive role in promoting peace and stability on the peninsula and supporting multilateral dialogue regarding North Korea.
Additionally, the leaders may review progress on previous summit agreements and discuss upcoming agendas for the APEC summit in Shenzhen this November. Other topics of attention include the West Sea structure issues and Taiwan.
