Warsaw Uprising 82nd Anniversary Commemorations Across Poland and Abroad

On 1 August 2026, the 82nd anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising was marked with a series of public events. In Warsaw, a commemorative run attracted roughly 6,000 participants on the 5 km course and 8,000 on the 10 km course, following a new route through historic districts and featuring speeches, choir performances and the playing of the national anthem.

In the town of Warka, residents gathered at the “Polish Aviators” monument at 17:00 for the symbolic “Hour W”. Sirens sounded nationwide, and participants sang patriotic songs, visited a city‑wide historical game, and received diplomas and commemorative pins.

The Polish diaspora in Toronto observed the hour with a ceremony at the Katyn monument, laying wreaths and flowers. The event was led by Jan Cytowski of the Toronto Polish Congress and included a speech by 98‑year‑old veteran Stanisław Woźniak.

A separate ceremony in Warsaw’s Powstańców Cemetery honored civilian victims of the Wola massacre, with former Home Army member Wanda Traczyk‑Stawska speaking about the need to remember the fallen.

An online nationalist portal also published a provocative article on the day, invoking the uprising in a political rallying call, but it did not involve a public ceremony.
