Belgium and the Netherlands experience unseasonable late-September warmth
Parts of Belgium and the Netherlands are experiencing unseasonably high temperatures at the end of September. In Belgium, meteorologist Sabine Hagedoren noted that temperatures could reach 29 degrees Celsius, potentially breaking daily records for this time of year.
In the Netherlands, the warm weather is driven by a southern airflow bringing heat from Southern Europe. Temperatures in regions like Hoeksche Waard are expected to reach 24 degrees, though clouds and thunderstorms may follow in the evening. Meteorologist Harma Boer attributed these extremes to climate change and shifting air currents, noting that while unusual, such warmth has occurred in previous years.
The heatwave has had local economic impacts, such as at the ice cream shop De Smaak, where owners reported a significant surge in sales due to the unexpected warmth.
