Warner Bros. executives address acquisition uncertainty and film strategy
Warner Bros. Television Group CEO Channing Dungey has warned that future projects and long-term commitments could be paused if the ongoing Paramount Skydance acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery remains unresolved. While the studio has maintained high momentum with 12 new series orders since January and recent renewals with producers like John Wells and Matt Reeves, Dungey noted that the company will want to discuss major long-term commitments with partners once the deal is settled.
Simultaneously, Warner Bros. film executives Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy emphasized a strategy of maintaining an eclectic movie slate. Speaking at the Toronto Film Festival, they expressed a commitment to supporting diverse filmmakers and original IP to offset risks, rather than relying solely on commercial hits. This strategy aims to balance art with monetization through various labels, including New Line Cinema and the recently added Clockwork.
