Warsaw Marathon to host record participants and cause city-wide traffic disruptions
The 48th Warsaw Marathon is set to take place on Sunday, September 27, marking a historic milestone as the largest edition in Poland's history. The event has achieved World Athletics Elite Label status and is part of the European Marathon Classics. Approximately 14,000 participants are registered for the full marathon, with an additional 7,000 expected for the 10km race.
The event will cause significant traffic and public transport disruptions across Warsaw. Road closures and bridge restrictions are scheduled to begin as early as Friday, September 25, on Świętokrzyska Street. On Sunday, major thoroughfares and bridges, including Poniatowski, Świętokrzyski, and Gdański bridges, will face closures during the morning and early afternoon.
Organizers emphasize that the marathon is evolving into a city-wide weekend of running culture, featuring community spaces like the New Balance Run House to engage runners, families, and spectators.
