French citizen’s tunnel intrusion forces closure of 10 Warsaw metro stations

On the morning of 24 June 2026 a 22‑year‑old French national entered the tunnel of Warsaw’s metro line M1 between the Służew and Ursynów stations. Alarm systems detected the unauthorised presence, prompting police patrols who arrested the suspect at Służew after he refused to cooperate.

The intrusion caused the immediate shutdown of ten stations on the southern segment of line M1, limiting train service to the short stretch between Młociny and Politechnika. A second, more extensive closure was ordered later the same day after authorities decided to re‑inspect the Służew station and its infrastructure because of the suspect’s non‑cooperation and a perceived security threat.

To mitigate passenger disruption, Warsaw’s public‑transport authority activated substitute bus routes (ZM1) and a tram line (ZM2) covering the affected corridor. The incident affected tens of thousands of commuters during peak hours, but railway infrastructure remained intact after checks.
