Dawid K. charged with fraud at Warsaw's South Hospital
The Warsaw District Prosecutor's Office has charged Dawid K., a former coordinator of the emergency department at South Hospital and a former local councilor for the Civic Coalition, with large-scale fraud. The charges involve the submission of unreliable invoices totaling over 583,500 PLN. Prosecutors allege that during his employment, the doctor claimed to be at work while actually being outside of Warsaw or even outside of Poland.
In response to the charges, the prosecutor applied several restrictive measures, including police supervision, a 200,000 PLN bail (which has been paid), and a ban on leaving the country with the seizure of his passport. Dawid K. has not pleaded guilty.
The investigation is part of a broader probe into South Hospital involving at least four different tracks. Beyond the fraud charges, authorities are investigating the abuse of power by a public official. Additionally, a separate inquiry has been launched into the hospital's morgue regarding potential managerial bribery and the desecration of corpses. Allegations regarding the morgue include the unauthorized use of the facility as a film set and the illegal sale of funeral services.
