Investigation into Warsaw hospital medical fraud

Dr. Dawid Kacprzyk remains under investigation by the prosecutor’s office and the Professional Responsibility Ombudsman following a scandal at the Southern Hospital in Warsaw. While public pressure for his suspension has mounted, Jacek Opinc, the Chief Spokesperson for Professional Responsibility, has confirmed that a formal application to suspend Kacprzyk’s right to practice has not yet been prepared. Consequently, Kacprzyk remains legally permitted to practice medicine and has sought employment at various facilities, including a medical center in Jaktorów. In undercover footage published by Kanał Zero, Kacprzyk addressed the controversy with indifference, stating, “I don’t give a damn.” He characterized the investigation as a “political affair,” alleging that the Law and Justice (PiS) party is responsible for the scrutiny in connection with upcoming elections. He also noted that he has avoided driving his luxury vehicle to the clinic to prevent public commotion. Following a multi-hour interrogation, the Warsaw District Prosecutor's Office has officially charged Kacprzyk with large-scale fraud. Prosecutors allege he submitted unreliable invoices totaling over 583,500 PLN by claiming to be at work while actually being outside of Warsaw or even outside of Poland. In response, authorities applied restrictive measures including police supervision, a 200,000 PLN bail (which has been paid), and a ban on leaving the country accompanied by the seizure of his passport. Kacprzyk has not pleaded guilty.
