Washington and Baghdad Sign 48 Economic and Energy Agreements
The United States and Iraq announced the signing of 48 bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding aimed at deepening cooperation across a wide range of sectors. The deals were finalized during Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al‑Zaydi's official visit to Washington and cover oil and electricity partnerships involving major U.S. firms such as Exxon Mobil, GE Vernova, KBR, Shell and Halliburton. Financial cooperation includes an accord between the Central Bank of Iraq and the U.S. Treasury to upgrade Iraqi banks, and a joint venture with JPMorgan to open a local branch. Additional agreements span education, health, infrastructure, agriculture, and digital connectivity, notably a partnership with Starlink for satellite internet services and collaborations with PepsiCo, Kryolite Technology and other private‑sector companies. The package is presented as a comprehensive effort to boost trade, investment and development ties between the two nations.
