Washington Commanders overhaul staff and count on $96 million Oweh deal

The Washington Commanders have reshaped their coaching staff for the 2024 season, appointing former assistant quarterbacks coach David Blough as offensive coordinator and former Minnesota Vikings defensive backs coach Daronte Jones as defensive coordinator. Both are first‑year coordinators and were labeled breakout candidates by The Athletic.

In addition, the team signed pass‑rusher Odafe Oweh to a $96 million contract with $68 million guaranteed. Oweh, a former first‑round pick who has been a rotational player with the Ravens and Chargers, is expected to take on a larger role in Washington’s new 3‑4 defensive scheme under Jones.

The changes aim to improve the offense around quarterback Jayden Daniels and to accelerate the defense’s development, with the organization hoping the new personnel can help return the team to postseason contention.
