Washington Commanders staff and contract moves

In late July 2026 the Washington Commanders announced a series of personnel changes aimed at improving a faltering roster. The team hired David Blough as offensive coordinator and Daronte Jones as defensive coordinator, both entering their first year in those roles, and signed pass‑rusher Odafe Oweh to a $96 million contract to bolster a new 3‑4 defensive scheme.

A few days later the franchise secured wide receiver Terry McLaurin with a three‑year, $97 million extension despite a decline in offensive production during the 2025 season. The extension was presented amid criticism of the Commanders’ thin wide‑receiver group and calls for additional talent at the position.
