Washington Nationals designate Miles Mikolas for assignment
The Washington Nationals have designated veteran right-hander Miles Mikolas for assignment. The 37-year-old pitcher has struggled during his first season with the team, posting a 3-9 record and a 5.82 ERA across 25 appearances.
In a corresponding move, the Nationals selected the contract of left-hander Jackson Kent from Triple-A Rochester. Kent, a 23-year-old prospect ranked No. 8 in the organization, is set to make his major league debut against the Chicago Cubs.
Mikolas, who previously played for the San Diego Padres, Texas Rangers, and St. Louis Cardinals, also spent three seasons in Japan with the Yomiuri Giants from 2015 to 2017. He has expressed interest in a potential return to Japanese baseball in the future.
