Washoe County declares state of emergency due to Hawk Fire
A large-scale wildfire known as the Hawk Fire has triggered a state of emergency in Washoe County, Nevada. Local authorities have issued immediate ‘GO NOW’ evacuation orders for approximately 42,000 residents, with the fire zone reaching the University of Nevada area. An additional 45,000 people are in adjacent areas under evacuation warnings.
Variable and intensifying winds are expected to accelerate the fire's spread and change its direction. The fire has already caused significant power outages in the region. A temporary shelter for evacuees has been established at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.
The Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a warning to Bulgarian citizens in the Reno and Washoe County areas, advising them to avoid travel to affected zones unless absolutely necessary and to strictly follow all local evacuation orders and instructions.
