Waste management challenges rise in Italy during summer season

Waste management issues are causing significant local disruptions across parts of Italy during the summer season. In the Veneto region, long queues have formed at recycling centers (ecocentri) in locations such as Lusiana Conco, Carmignano di Brenta, and Tezze sul Brenta. These delays are attributed to increased seasonal cleaning activities and modified operating hours implemented by the utility provider, Etra, to mitigate heatwaves.

In Sardinia, residents in Siniscola, specifically in La Caletta, are reporting an increase in illegal dumping and the formation of makeshift landfills in marginal areas. Mayor Gian Luigi Farris noted that municipal workers had to remove 15 truckloads of various waste, including large appliances, from the Sa Petra Ruja pine forest following the Ferragosto holiday. These cleanup efforts represent an additional cost to municipal resources, potentially impacting local waste tax rates.
