WATCH OUT project inaugurates 1,000th UV index board in Leipzig

The WATCH OUT prevention project has reached a milestone with the inauguration of its 1,000th UV index board at the Schreberbad outdoor pool in Leipzig, Germany. The project is a nationwide initiative led by the Deutsche Krebshilfe, the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Dermatologischer Prävention (ADP), and various partners.

These boards provide daily updates on UV radiation levels and offer specific behavioral advice, such as seeking shade, wearing appropriate clothing, and using sunscreen, to help reduce the risk of skin cancer. The initiative is currently active in over 80 municipalities across twelve German federal states.

Susanne Klehn, an ambassador for skin cancer prevention with the Deutsche Krebshilfe, presented the milestone board. Local officials in Leipzig noted that the city is equipping its outdoor pools with six such boards to ensure visitor safety and health, particularly as climate change contributes to increased heat and UV exposure.
