Water and sanitation agencies mark anniversaries in Mexico and Dominican Republic

Water and sanitation agencies in Mexico and the Dominican Republic recently marked significant institutional anniversaries, highlighting infrastructure developments and investments in public utilities.

In Zinacantepec, Mexico, the Decentralized Public Body for the Provision of Drinking Water, Sewerage, and Sanitation (OPDAPAS) celebrated 30 years of service. Director Iván Saucedo Sánchez reported extensive hydraulic infrastructure work, including the construction and rehabilitation of water and drainage networks, well drilling, and maintenance of over 135 kilometers of infrastructure. Between 2022 and 2024, the agency added 3,000 meters of potable water networks and 2,300 meters of sanitary drainage.

In the Dominican Republic, the National Institute of Potable Water and Sewerage (INAPA) commemorated its 64th anniversary with ceremonies in Santo Domingo. Executive Director Wellington Arnaud noted that recent investments in the water sector have been five times higher than in previous periods under the administration of President Luis Abinader. Arnaud emphasized the institution's goal to reduce social debt regarding water and sanitation and highlighted INAPA's recent participation in an Organization of American States (OAS) meeting in Washington, D.C., to share successful water management experiences.
