Water crisis intensifies in Sucre and Falcon states

Severe water shortages are affecting multiple regions in Venezuela, driven by infrastructure damage, technical failures, and drought. In Sucre state, the paralysis of the Guamacán tunnel at the Turimiquire reservoir has disrupted the flow of potable water for thousands of families. This system is a critical piece of infrastructure for eastern Venezuela, responsible for supplying water to purification plants and the submarine aqueduct that serves Margarita Island. Reports indicate that some sectors in Cumaná are receiving only 50% of their usual water quota, with many communities forced to rely on water trucks.

Simultaneously, Falcon state is facing an intensified crisis. In municipalities such as Miranda and Colina, technical issues at the El Isiro reservoir, reportedly caused by strong winds, have interrupted the supply. Residents in Coro and surrounding areas have reported waiting weeks or even months for service, leading to neighborhood assemblies and road closures to demand solutions. While local water authorities have shared information regarding repair maneuvers and temporary rationing, a general contingency plan from the state government has not been officially established.
