Water crisis looms in Hyderabad and Indore due to low rainfall

Major cities in India are facing potential water shortages due to significant rainfall deficits. In Hyderabad, Telangana, a 17 percent decrease in rainfall has caused reservoir levels to drop, threatening a water crisis as early as December or January. The Singur reservoir, a primary source for the western IT corridor, is at a critical level, with only about 13 percent of its capacity remaining. Officials estimate it could be exhausted within 60 days. Other vital sources, including Osman Sagar, have also seen substantial declines in storage.

In Indore, local authorities are also preparing for upcoming shortages caused by low rainfall. The Mayor has directed officials to ensure necessary water supply arrangements are in place before January and has called for public awareness campaigns regarding water usage to mitigate pressure on borewells and local water sources.
