Water crisis spreads across multiple Indonesian regions due to drought

Prolonged drought driven by the El Nino phenomenon has caused widespread water crises across several regions in Indonesia, including Tangsel, Ngawi, and Tangerang.

In Tangsel, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reports 58 drought-affected points, with daily clean water distributions reaching 40,000 to 60,000 liters. In Ngawi, the crisis has expanded to 7 districts and 23 villages, impacting approximately 1,739 families or 5,068 individuals. Local authorities have declared a drought emergency status to manage the distribution of water via tankers.

Meanwhile, in Tangerang Regency, 106 villages across 26 districts are facing water shortages as local wells have run dry. The BPBD is coordinating with various local agencies and regional enterprises to ensure continuous water supply to affected residents.
