Water infrastructure and digital reporting initiatives launched in Maputo
WaterAid Mozambique has raised concerns regarding the sustainability of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) infrastructure in primary health centers. During a seminar in Maputo, the organization warned that investments risk losing impact when systems fail due to inadequate maintenance, lack of funding, or insufficient technical capacity. The organization advocates for sustainability to be integrated from the project conception phase, including technology selection, technical training, and financial planning for operations.
In a separate development in the capital, the Maputo Water and Sanitation Supply Society (SAAS-Maputo) launched a digital platform called ‘ReporteFugas’. Part of the ‘StopFuga’ campaign, the tool allows citizens to report water leaks via the internet to reduce water loss and improve operational efficiency. Delegated Administrator Jánio Langa stated the platform marks a milestone in modernizing services and improving customer relations.
