Water infrastructure and utility contract developments in Spain

In Spain, significant developments are occurring in regional water management and infrastructure. In Canet lo Roig, a new drinking water supply well has become operational following a 4.3 million euro investment by the Generalitat Valenciana. This project, which utilizes a solar-powered system, is intended to serve approximately 2,700 residents across Canet lo Roig, La Jana, and Traiguera. Local authorities noted that water restrictions may be lifted following upcoming quality analyses.

In Catalonia, Veolia remains the leading candidate for a major water supply contract in the Barcelona Metropolitan Area. The contract, valued at approximately 1 billion euros, covers eight municipalities including Sant Cugat del Vallès and Molins de Rei, serving roughly 250,000 inhabitants over a 25-year period. The Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) accepted Veolia's justifications regarding a significant reduction in investment costs, which had previously raised concerns regarding the viability of the bid. A final vote for the contract award is expected on September 29.
