Water infrastructure developments announced in Sierra Leone and Lesotho

In Sierra Leone, Water Resources Minister Dr. Sao-Kpato Hannah Isatta Macarthy has announced a major reform programme to improve access to safe water and strengthen sanitation services. Working with the World Bank, the initiative aims to expand water supply, upgrade infrastructure, and reduce water losses. A central component involves installing approximately 23,000 smart water meters to improve revenue collection and service sustainability. The minister also emphasized the need for better waste management, public toilets, and the protection of water catchment areas from environmental degradation.

In Lesotho, Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina is conducting a working visit to oversee the Lesotho Highlands Water Project Phase 2 (LHWP2). During the visit, officials are unveiling the newly completed Mabunyaneng and Khubelu bridges in the Mokhotlong District. These structures, alongside the recently completed Senqu Bridge, are designed to ensure continuous community access across the future Polihali Dam once the reservoir is impounded, maintaining connectivity on the A1 Road between Mokhotlong and Maseru.
