Water infrastructure investments announced in Portugal

Two major water infrastructure projects have been announced in Portugal to improve supply reliability and efficiency.

The Associação de Beneficiários do Mira (ABM) will invest 6.3 million euros to rehabilitate the general conductor canal of the Aproveitamento Hidroagrícola do Mira. Scheduled to begin in 2027, the project focuses on stabilizing canal slopes to improve water transport reliability. The 38-kilometer canal carries water from the Santa Clara reservoir to irrigation perimeters, supporting public supply and agriculture across 12,000 hectares in the Odemira and Aljezur municipalities.

In Olhão, Ambiolhão is executing a 7.65 million euro program to renew water supply and sanitation networks. This includes 17.7 kilometers of water supply networks and 7.5 kilometers of connection branches across several zones, including Olhão, Quelfes, and Armona Island. Approximately 3.72 million euros of the project is eligible for funding through the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). The initiative aims to reduce water loss and prepare for future urban and economic growth.
